How many labels ? For What ? How many times have you heard: “Bio is only for the rich!” Or ” Ecology is only marketing!”? Undoubtedly countless times. It’s time to fight all these clichés about organic food and adopt a healthy diet.

1. Eat organic to respect the planet

By excluding chemicals, organic farming preserves soil and the environment. Fruits and vegetables are also adapted to the soil where they are grown and thus are less water-hungry. In such circumstances, respect for the seasons is essential. And, unlike intensive livestock farming (where livestock is mainly fed with corn or soybeans which require too much water and release nitrates into the wild), ecological farming favors pasture.

2. Eat organic to (re)discover the “real” taste of food 

Even if they do not necessarily look very good, fruits and vegetables produced according to the organic standard are tastier. Partly because they are harvested at a stage of maturity more advanced than in conventional agriculture – where the systematic use of pesticides alters the taste of food. Same for meat and fish. Practices and slaughter conditions in industrial farming are a source of stress for the concerned animals to the point it affects the nutritional value and tenderness of their flesh.

3. Eat organic to defend an ethical world 

Consuming organic means also conforming to the rules of fair trade and the principle of proximity. Transport is indeed an important cause of greenhouse gas emissions. By producing locally and reducing packaging to a minimum, the organic food industry significantly limits pollution. Short distribution channels are not only a guarantee of quality and economy for the consumer (the less intermediaries there are, the cheaper the product is) but offer producers a sustainable source of income (usually trimmed by the margins of conventional distributors).
